R&D and Biosecurity Manager Report

The Berry Advisory Mechanism has prioritised three research projects: BerryQuest International 2025, agrichemical permit support, and chilli thrip and leafroller management. A new Strategic Horticulture Investment Framework (SHIFt) is shaping future industry R&D priorities. Biosecurity efforts include Varroa mite cost-sharing repayment, an incursion of Red Dwarf Honey Bee in Western Australia, and Brown Marmorated Stink Bug surveillance. The Commonwealth Government scrapped the Biosecurity Protection Levy after industry advocacy. Ongoing research and biosecurity initiatives aim to strengthen Australia’s berry industry resilience.
