Food Safety Changes for Horticulture Producers

New food safety regulations for berry producers are being implemented across Australia, with Victoria and Western Australia leading the way. The Primary Production and Processing Standards require growers to register with local food safety regulators and comply with hygiene, traceability, and water use rules. Some states, including Queensland and New South Wales, have delayed implementation for further consultation. Producers accredited with Freshcare and other GFSI schemes will have streamlined registration, while others must complete additional compliance steps. The changes aim to improve food safety while minimising regulatory burdens on growers.
