Rubus and particularly raspberry breeding is a highly competitive global industry

Many newer varieties are covered by intellectual property protection known as Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR) and can only be propagated or planted under licence from the owner of the PBR.

In Australia, most of the Rubus varieties that are grown commercially are supplied through the variety owner and can only be grown and marketed under licence from the owner i.e. Driscoll’s.
