Western Australian Botrytis fungicide resistance study

The study investigates fungicide resistance in *Botrytis cinerea* (grey mould) affecting berries in Western Australia. Researchers at Curtin University analysed 307 isolates from Perth and interstate samples, identifying 45 phenotypes. Resistance was highest in conventionally grown strawberries, particularly to pyrimethanil, azoxystrobin, iprodione, and fenhexamid. Organic berries and strawberry runners also exhibited resistance, though at lower frequencies. Resistance resulted from genetic diversity, selection pressures, and cross-contamination from other crops. The findings highlight concerns about fungicide efficacy and potential limitations in disease management strategies.
