Rubus Industry Development Officer

The Rubus IDO is based in Tasmania

The role of IDO for Rubus & Tasmania is delivered by Ella Roper at Fruit Growers’ Tasmania.

Ella took on the role of Rubus IDO with Berries Australia in June 2024, taking over from Mark Salter following his retirement in May 2024.

She is based in Hobart, working as part of the Fruit Growers Tasmania team.

Ella comes from a technical horticulture background, having spent six years working as a horticulturalist with Costa in North-West Tasmania, focusing on blueberries. She has experience in soil and substrate growing systems, as well as extensive agronomic skills and experience. She completed her undergraduate degree in Agricultural Science with Honours at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in 2017, undertaking her honours project investigating predictive models for botrytis in raspberry.

Ella brings additional technical and practical experience to the team and is looking forward to working with the wider berry industry. She looks forward to understanding grower priorities, providing on-ground support and helping growers develop and grow.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Ella.

Although this role is based in Tasmania, it is responsible for providing support to all Rubus growers across Australia – regardless of the region where you grow.  The role is also going to be able to provide on-the-ground support for growers of all berry types in the Tasmanian region so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
