APOLLO GOMEZ: Queensland Department of Agriculture & Fisheries

Apollo Gomez is a senior plant pathologist with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Apollo has been involved in Hort R&D for over 24 years across different disciplines, such as breeding, physiology, entomology, and plant pathology.

He currently leads and collaborates on a number of strawberry disease management projects and is also involved in vegetable pathology. Apollo has developed control strategies, using chemical, biological and cultural interventions, for economically important diseases such as grey mould, powdery mildew, and charcoal rot that have been widely adopted by both strawberry fruit and runner producers to mitigate the impact of diseases and to avoid the risk of pathogens developing fungicide resistance.

Apollo also provides diagnostic and disease management support to the strawberry producers, agronomists, and other industry affiliates.
